Winter storm coming: Will the NYC area see snow?
NEW YORK – Certain weather models are suggesting parts of New York and New Jersey could see significant snow Thursday. The rest of the area could see ice or more than an inch of rain.
"A coastal storm is expected to bring multiple impacts to the region starting Thursday morning and persisting through Friday," the National Weather Service said in a briefing.
Winter Weather Advisories are posted for much of southern and central New Jersey. Where is it going to snow?
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning from 4 p.m. Thursday until 10 a.m. Saturday in Western Ulster County. In Sullivan County, a winter storm warning is in place from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Friday. Other parts of New York State, as well as parts of New Jersey, are also under winter weather advisories.

The wet weather will work its way into the region from the southwest to the northeast, with most seeing the wet weather by mid-morning, around 10 a.m.

Most of New York City will see rain out of the incoming coastal low. But some to the northwest of the metro areas will see some heavy, wet snow that could be pretty intense at times.
Some of the higher elevations in far western portions of Orange County, New York, could see 6 inches or more of heavy, wet snow before the system pulls away.
"Scattered downed tree limbs and power lines possible in this area," the National Weather Service said.
Eastern Orange County, New York, and western Passaic County, New Jersey, could get 1 to 4 inches of wet snow (the highest amounts will be in the highest elevations).
Other parts of Northwest New Jersey could get 2 inches of snow with some higher accumulations possible in higher elevations. A light glaze of ice is also possible.
Up to 1 inch of wet snow could fall in Rockland, Putnam, and northern Westchester Counties in New York.
New York City and its nearby suburbs could see 1 to 2 inches of rain from the storm.

"A period of easterly/northeasterly wind gusts of 30-35 mph is possible inland, with 35-50 mph gusts over coastal areas and the waters late Thursday into Friday morning," the National Weather Service said.
A Gale Watch is also posted for the waters off New Jersey and New York. Minor coastal flooding is also possible from the storm.
