Today is the only day of the month with no F&O expiry

.

The last day of the month is the only day of the month without any expiry.

Interestingly, today, October 25, is the only day of the month that had no expiry. Since the exchanges have changed the options expiry dates, with Bank Nifty’s weekly index options expiry day changed to Wednesday from Thursday, every day of the week is now an expiry day. NSE has adopted a daily expiry model, ensuring that major index options contracts expire on different days of the week. A shift in expiry dates has stirred the market’s pot, resulting in action-packed Mondays through Fridays. This bustling schedule keeps traders on their toes every day of the week.

Yet, amidst this constant hustle, Bank Nifty’s monthly options and futures remain tied to the last Thursday of the month. This unique arrangement leaves the last Wednesday of the month devoid of any expiry, affording traders a well-deserved respite.

Some traders on the X platform find this situation amusing, jesting, “Can’t believe such a big opportunity is being allowed to exist! The last Wednesday of every month stands alone as the sole day without any expiry. How could the exchanges let this slip through the cracks?”

However, this quirk in the schedule also brings some discomfort to traders. The majority of algorithms and systematic trading platforms are finely tuned for Wednesday expiry, forcing traders to recalibrate their strategies when dealing.
