Gainers and Losers: 10 stocks that moved the most on January 9

The Sensex and the Nifty failed to hold on the day’s gains to end flat in a volatile session. About 1,980 shares advanced, 1,387 declined and 71 remained unchanged

The equity benchmarks ended near the day’s low, giving up most of the gains in a choppy session on January 9. The Sensex closed 30.99 points or 0.04 percent, higher at 71,386.21 and the Nifty 31.80 points, or 0.15 percent, up  at 21,544.80. About 1,980 shares advanced, 1,387 declined and 71 remained unchanged.

Polycab | CMP Rs 4,874.95 | The stock went down nearly 9 percent after reports said that the income-tax department had demanded Rs 200 crore for evasion from the company.

Tata Motors | CMP Rs 801 | The stock gained 1.5 percent after the company’s Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) division recorded the highest wholesale figures for 11 quarters in the October-December period. JLR’s sales in December quarter were up 27 percent YoY.

Bharat Forge | CMP Rs 1,275 | The stock gained 1.5 percent after the company agreed to invest Rs 1,000 crore over the next five years to expand its manufacturing operations in Tamil Nadu.

L&T | CMP Rs 3,560 | The Larsen and Tourbo stock gained 1.68 percent after the company won an order to develop AIIMS in Haryana. Larsen & Toubro Construction’s buildings and factories business secured the “significant” order from HITES, a mini-Ratna PSE under the health and family welfare ministry, it said without disclosing the value of the project.

Lemon Tree Hotels | CMP Rs 129.9 | The Lemon Tree Hotels stock surged 2 percent after the company announced signing a new property in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. The hotel is expected to be operational from FY25, the company said.

IRB Infra | CMP Rs 45.8 | Shares of IRB Infrastructure Developers gained 8 percent and hit a 52- week high after the company reported a 26 percent YoY growth in toll collection at Rs 488 crore in the December quarter.

Gensol Engineering | CMP Rs 835 | Shares of Gensol Engineering gained 3.26 percent after the company executed a Rs 2,000-crore MoU with the Gujarat government to manufacture electric vehicles.

Capacite Infraprojects | CMP Rs 282.7 | Capacite Infra shares surged 2.59 percent after the company launched a QIP for Rs 200 crore. The floor price of the QIP has been set at Rs 264.89 apiece, a 4 percent discount from the closing price in the previous session.
