Avenue Supermarts shares opened 2 percent higher on October 4 morning trade after the company reported an 18.5 percent year-on-year growth in standalone revenue from operations for the July-September quarter at Rs 12,308 crore.

The retailer’s stock has a ‘sell’ call from Citi with the target price set at Rs 3,060 per share.

“The Q2 update shows no signs of throughput recovery yet. We believe that the revenue per square feet continues to be impacted by inferior product mix. The company had reported nine store additions during the quarter, with most being in smaller towns. However, we remain cautious at current valuation given risk around earnings,” Citi said.

As on September 30, total number of stores operated by Avenue Supermarts reportedly stood at 336.

At 9.20 am on the NSE, the Avenue Supermarts stock was quoting at Rs 3,800 apiece, up Rs 74.30, or 1.99 percent.

The stock is down nearly 8 percent in year-to-date terms.

In its results for the April-June quarter, the company reported a 18.20 percent year-on-year (YoY) rise in revenue from operations at Rs 11,865 crore. Net profit for the quarter increased 2.48 percent YoY to Rs 659 crore. The operating profit margins for the quarter contracted by 100 basis points on a yearly basis to 9 percent.

Avenue Supermarts operates the popular supermarket chain, D-Mart. The company’s business model is based on providing a range of products at competitive prices all under one roof, including food and non-food fast moving consumer goods, apparels, and electronics.
