Infosys extends losses for a second day

Infosys has said this will be achieved by leveraging Shell’s immersion cooling fluid designed to increase the energy efficiency and performance of data servers and IT components.

Shares of IT major Infosys Limited traded 0.5 percent lower to Rs 1,447 in the early trade on December 1, extending losses for the second trading session in a row.

On November 30, the IT services firm announced its collaboration with energy giant Shell to accelerate the adoption of immersion cooling services for data centres. “Through this strategic engagement, Infosys and Shell will bring together their capabilities, and an eco-system of partners, to create an integrated offering for green data centres,” the company said in an exchange filing.

Infosys has said this will be achieved by leveraging Shell’s immersion cooling fluid designed to increase the energy efficiency and performance of data servers and IT components.

The pact gains significance as data centres are responsible for up to 1.5 percent of global electricity consumption and a percent of global CO2 emissions.  The company also added that artificial intelligence is expected to accelerate data centre demand and AI workloads would significantly increase both energy consumption and CO2 emission. Immersion cooling technology claims to potentially lower CO2 emissions by up to 30 percent and 48 percent reduction in energy footprint production.

“It is also critical that future digital and physical solutions are created with a view to making AI more sustainable and scalable,” the management said. A pilot would be conducted at Shell’s and Infosys’ data centres and the companies intend to extend the offer to other customers globally.
