Cookie chain to replace popular N.J. ice creamery that recently closed

Chip City, a New York City-based cookie chain, will soon branch out to New Jersey.

The budding cookie company is planning to open in Ridgewood at 305 E. Ridgewood Ave., replacing Ice Cream by Mike.

Ice Cream by Mike, which shuttered on Aug. 14, was ranked on NJ.coms list of New Jerseys 65 greatest ice cream shops.

Chip Citys Ridgewood store is expected to open in early 2023, although an exact opening date has yet to be determined.

We feel like we have a very good following here in New York and a lot of people are already aware of the brand in New Jersey, Theodore Gailas, co-founder of Chip City told NJ Advance Media. Ridgewood is a nice neighborhood that, we felt, drew some similarities to the neighborhoods we are already at in New York.

We also have two other stores planned to open in New Jersey, Gailas said. One is in Hoboken at 113 Washington St., and the other one is going to be in Newark at the Gateway Center.

The company has not yet announced the opening dates for the new New Jersey locations.

Chip City will continue to add stores in The Big Apple in September with new spots coming to Garden City and Upper West Side.

The company also has more stores planned to open in Florida, which already has 12 locations, according to Gailas.

The cookie shop offers a variety of cookies, including seasonal and specialty cookies. Its cookie menu rotates weekly, providing a lineup of six flavors per week.

Chip City also offers ice cream sandwiches seasonally at select locations.

The chain debuted in Astoria, Queens in 2017.
